Columbia Football League was established in 1975 as a member of the
North American Junior Independent Football Federation (NAJIFF).
We now provide flag football for 5-6 years olds and tackle for 7-8,
9-10 and 11-12 year old teams. We also provide cheerleading for
girls 3-13.
NAJIFF was founded in
1975 by Mr. Adam Penna. Mr. Penna saw the need, as Athletic Director
for Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX; for a youth football program
which didn't discriminate because of a childs size or weight. NAJIFF
still follows those guidelines.
Mr. Wayne Penna was
initially the Columbia Commissioner. In 1976, Glen Penna took over
as Head Coach of the 9-10 year olds; a position he has now held
for 30 years. Glenn is locally recognized as one of the best youth
football coaches in South Texas. His winning record in unequalled.
In 33 years coaching, Glenn has only lost 13 games and has won 28
City Championships. In 1981, Glenn became the Commissioner of Columbia
Football. We contribute our success both on and off the field to
Glenn's dedication and hard work. In 2003 Glen became the NAJIFF
Commissioner, replacing his father.
Over the years Columbia
has been Blessed with numerous winning seasons and Championships.
The Championship seasons
are as follows:
Lil Riders (5-6 flag) - 2000, 2004, 2010.
We have also been proud
of the alumni who have graced our playing field. The list of former
players include: Scott Ankrom of the Cowboys, Keith & Kerry
Cash of several NFL teams, Wane McGarity of the Cowboys and Cedric
Griffin of the Vikings. We're also proud of
the scores of college players and hundreds of high school players.
We pride ourselves on
discipline, technique, academics and most of all high moral standards.
